Noel Gallagher: Guitar Hoarder Who Gave Noasis A Guitar
Noel Gallagher calls himself a guitar hoarder, but he once gave a guitar to the Noasis tribute act after a sold-out show. Here is the full story.
Noel Gallagher calls himself a guitar hoarder, but he once gave a guitar to the man who plays him in a tribute band.
The Oasis guitarist told the story on Chicken Shop Date, in a new episode with host Amelia Dimoldenberg.
For context, the tribute act is Noasis, one of the most recognisable Oasis cover bands on the circuit.
The episode forms part of the final series of the show, and Noel joined Dimoldenberg at Sam’s Chicken in Harlesden, London.
A hoarder who still gives guitars away
First, Noel drew a clear line between himself and his friend Johnny Marr.
In contrast, Marr feels more sentimental about jackets than guitars, and he auctioned more than 100 guitars in September.
Noel struggles to part with his instruments, and his collection keeps growing over time.
Still, he told Dimoldenberg that he does give guitars away on rare occasions.
He said he parts with one only “if someone is worthy.”
He told Dimoldenberg: “I’m a hoarder… [but] I’ve given a few [guitars] away.”
The sold-out show and the gift
Next, Noel explained how the Noasis gift came about.
He went to see Noasis play live, and the show sold out completely.
Noel recalled: “I brought [a guitar] down and gave it to the lad.”
He said: “I once gave a guitar to a guy who played me in a tribute band.”
Above all, the gift made a strange kind of sense for Noel.
He was not really giving a guitar away at all, since he was giving it back to another version of himself.
The moment also closed a circle, since Noel had once refused the very same band a hearing years earlier.
The door knock in 2008
The gift also carried a backstory, because Noel had once turned Noasis away.
Back in 2008, Noasis members knocked on his door in London to invite him to a gig.
They knew where he lived because someone who had worked on his house had told them.
The visit had the feel of fans turning up at a hero’s door.
At the door, his wife answered, recognised the band, and went to fetch him.
When the band asked if he fancied coming along to their gig, he declined in blunt terms.
He said: “No, I’m not interested.”
Years later, the band member told the story on Radio X in 2022.
A clothes shop reunion
Later, Noel bumped into his tribute double in an unlikely place far from any stage.
Around a year and a half after the gig he attended, he found the performer working in a clothes shop.
In the shop, he asked how the band was going, and the answer was honest.
The performer said things were “not so good now” for the band.
The Urban Verve, a Verve tribute act, had overtaken them in the local pecking order.
The chance meeting showed how far the tribute act’s fortunes had fallen by then, far from sold-out rooms.

Noasis on tour now
Today, Noasis are riding the reunion wave, and they are on tour right now.
On the road, they play Oxford on 30 October 2026, the day before Halloween.
After that, they have gigs across November, December, and into the new year.
For fans who missed out on Oasis tickets in the ballot, Noasis offer a backup plan with Noel’s own blessing.
The reunion has given tribute acts a fresh lift, and Noasis now play to eager fans who missed the ballot.
What it means for Live ‘27 fans
Meanwhile, the story lands as Oasis head toward their second reunion run.
In sales, all 42 Live ‘27 shows sold out in the September 2026 ballot, and no general sale took place.
For fans, the Live ‘27 setlist debate already fills forums, and no official setlist exists.
Our Gallagher brothers page profiles the partnership at the heart of both tours.
The Oasis lineup page covers the band that fans will watch on stage next summer.
The Knebworth guide covers the six night finale in September 2027.
Elsewhere, the Oasis documentary page tracks the reunion film in full, from its cinema run to streaming.
Fans still hunting for tickets should use official resale only, at face value, through the Oasis tickets page.
Above all, the story shows why tribute acts matter to fans waiting between tours.
