Noel Gallagher Guitars Set Oasis Auction Records
Noel Gallagher's MTV Unplugged guitar sold for £226,800 at Propstore in October 2026, setting a record for an Oasis acoustic guitar at auction.
Noel Gallagher owns a piece of auction history after his MTV Unplugged guitar set a record price in October 2026.
First, the signed Takamine FP460SC acoustic guitar sold for £226,800 at Propstore in London. The price includes buyer premium, and Propstore calls the result a world record for an Oasis acoustic guitar at auction.
The record sale
Next, Propstore sold the guitar on 1 October 2026 during its Music Live Auction. The auction ran across 1 and 2 October 2026, and the opening day alone raised £2,500,000.
Meanwhile, the guitar carries a history that explains the price. Noel played one of two identical Takamine guitars at the MTV Unplugged show at the Royal Festival Hall in London on 23 August 1996.
Still, the guitar did far more than one famous night on stage. Noel used the instrument on tour and in the studio between 1995 and 1999.
For context, the pre sale estimate sat between £75,000 and £150,000. The final price beat the top estimate by a wide margin.
Above all, provenance backed the price at every step. Propstore lists a signed letter from guitar technician Jason Rhodes with the lot, plus a Grammy Museum letter from December 2021.
A second guitar, a smaller price
Later, a second Noel guitar reached a far smaller price in the same week. Reports on 4 October 2026 said a 1997 Manchester City blue Epiphone guitar sold for £12,000 at Littleton Auctions in Worcestershire.
In short, the Epiphone came from a different corner of Oasis history. The son of Huw Richards, a former front of house sound engineer for the band, put the collection up for sale.
Back at the auction house, Littleton Auctions described the Epiphone as one of five identical guitars. The manufacturer gifted the five guitars to Noel, and Noel later passed one to Richards.
Today, the gap between £226,800 and £12,000 tells collectors a clear story. A guitar from a landmark televised show commands far more than a crew owned guitar with a quieter history.
What the sales say about Oasis collectibles
Meanwhile, the two sales show how provenance drives value in the Oasis market. Stage use, a famous show, and signed paperwork lift an item into record territory.
For fans, the lesson starts with paperwork, not passion. Collectors should ask for provenance letters, auction records, and a clear ownership chain before paying any premium.
Next, buyers should stick to established auction houses with public results.
In contrast, unsigned or poorly documented items carry far more risk.
The desk tapes link, kept in context
For context, the Littleton sale also touched a separate legal story. The band halted the sale of unheard recordings known as The Desk Tapes through an injunction, and Littleton Auctions postponed that part of the sale.
However, this article does not re-cover that legal dispute in detail. Our desk tapes injunction article covers the case for readers who want the full background.
What it means for Live ‘27 fans
Meanwhile, the auction buzz lands while fans count down to the second reunion run. All 42 Live 27 shows sold out in the September 2026 ballot, and no general sale took place.
For fans, only Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher stand confirmed by name for Live 27. The Live 27 lineup page tracks the expected band around the two brothers.
Next, the recent Noasis guitar gift story shows Noel giving guitars away as well as setting records with them. The auction record and the gift story both underline how much his guitars mean to fans.
Fans still hunting for tickets should use official resale only, at face value, through the Oasis tickets page.
