Bonehead's Road Back to the Oasis Lineup
Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs missed four Live '25 legs during prostate cancer treatment, then returned in Buenos Aires. Here is his road to Live '27.
Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs stands in the Oasis touring band for Live ‘27. He reached that position the hard way, through a cancer diagnosis and four missed tour legs. His return in South America closed the hardest chapter of the reunion.
Arthurs revealed a prostate cancer diagnosis in October 2025. Doctors had diagnosed the illness earlier that same year. He told fans his treatment was going well, and he stepped back from the tour to continue it.
The illness forced him out of the Asian and Australian legs. He missed the Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney runs while treatment continued. Guitarist Mike Moore stood in for him at those shows, and the band carried his place open.
In his absence, Moore carried the role without fuss through four stadium legs. He learned the parts quickly and kept the band’s sound intact throughout. The arrangement protected the tour while Arthurs focused fully on his treatment.
Arthurs returned for the South America leg in November 2025. He rejoined the band on stage in Buenos Aires on 15 November 2025. He stayed in the lineup for the rest of the run, through the final South American dates.
Arthurs had beaten cancer once before, years earlier. Doctors diagnosed tonsil cancer in 2022, and he later received the all clear. Few musicians return from two separate diagnoses to a stadium stage, let alone the biggest tour of the decade.
Why fans watch Bonehead first
Arthurs co-founded Oasis and shaped the band’s early sound. His rhythm guitar built the wall that Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory stand on. Fans treat him as the band’s foundation stone, never a sideman, and his shaved head anchors the classic image of the group.
Above all, his playing favours weight over flash. Arthurs locks the rhythm down while Gem Archer handles the lead lines around him. The partnership gives the Live ‘27 guitars their balance, thickness beneath and colour on top.
For context, many around the band credit Arthurs with helping the reunion happen. His friendships with both Gallaghers survived the split years intact. A present and playing Bonehead steadies the whole touring operation, on stage and off it.
Arthurs spoke about his health again on Radio X on 23 June 2026. He gave that update in his own words, in an interview fans can hear in full. His name stands in the Oasis lineup for Live ‘27, alongside the Gallaghers and the rest of the touring band.
That said, fans still read his fitness through a narrow lens. Every rehearsal photograph and public appearance draws fresh scrutiny from the fanbase. Arthurs answers most of it in the simplest way available to him, by walking on stage and playing.
Arthurs helped form the band in Manchester in 1991, long before fame arrived. He left in 1999, watched the band end in 2009, and returned for the reunion. His Live ‘27 place completes the longest arc of any member of the group.
Now, the fitness question follows him into every Live ‘27 announcement instead. Fans scan each lineup confirmation for his name before any other name on the list. Promoters publish the full touring band, and his name stands on every version.
Glasgow opens the tour at Celtic Park on 21 May 2027. Fans at that first show will watch the rhythm guitarist before they watch anyone else. Our Glasgow city page covers the opening night, and the Bonehead profile tells his full story.
His timeline now reads as two comebacks inside one reunion. Arthurs beat tonsil cancer in 2022, returned to the band, then fought a second diagnosis during the tour itself.
In the end, the Buenos Aires return in November 2025 closed that second fight in public, in front of fans. Fans will watch that arc complete itself in Glasgow.
Stage times for the Glasgow opener remain unconfirmed at this point. Our stage times page tracks official announcements city by city as promoters release them. Fans will know the running order, and who walks on first, well before May.
