Oasis did not start at the top of the bill, and the support slot tells their rise in full. They opened for bigger bands first, then they chose bills that summed up a whole scene.

For context, our support acts page covers the current Live 27 position. Our Oasis tours history tracks the tours behind these bills. Our Knebworth 1996 story covers the biggest bill of all.

The early years below the headline

First, Oasis supported The Verve on dates in December 1993, and the run covered Wolverhampton, Manchester, Glasgow, Preston, and Bradford. The Verve held the headline slot then, and Oasis played below them as a new band.

Next, the balance flipped fast as Oasis singles gained traction. By 1994 Ocean Colour Scene supported Oasis on the Live Forever Tour, and the slot helped the Birmingham band reach new crowds.

Meanwhile, Ocean Colour Scene signed to MCA in 1995 after the tour exposure. The support slot had served as a shop window, and the signing showed how much a good bill could do.

Then Pulp supported Oasis at Sheffield Arena on 22 April 1995, and the night also marked a song debut. Noel Gallagher first played a new song in his acoustic set that night, and the show closed the Definitely Maybe Tour.

A festival bill at Irvine Beach

First, the Irvine Beach Park shows on 14 and 15 July 1995 raised the bill again. Cast, Ocean Colour Scene, and The Verve all supported Oasis across the weekend, and the lineup read like a scene in itself.

Next, the weekend came a month after the band had starred at Glastonbury. Oasis then stood on the edge of their imperial phase, and the Irvine bill showed their pulling power.

Meanwhile, the support acts gained from the scale of the weekend too. Each band played to a large seaside crowd, and each band left with a wider audience than before.

Maine Road and Knebworth 1996

Then Manchester Maine Road hosted Oasis in April 1996, and Manic Street Preachers supported the band there. The home city shows carried huge local weight, and the support choice matched that weight.

Next, Knebworth took the bill to a different scale in August 1996. The Saturday bill featured The Prodigy, Manic Street Preachers, Ocean Colour Scene, and the Chemical Brothers.

Then the Sunday bill featured Manic Street Preachers, the Charlatans, Cast, Dreadzone, and Kula Shaker. The Bootleg Beatles also played across the weekend, and the two day bill summed up British music that summer.

Meanwhile, each night drew about 125,000 fans, and the support acts played to stadium scale crowds. A support slot at Knebworth could define a band, and several acts used it that way.

The reunion bill on Live 25

First, the Live 25 tour returned to the same logic in 2025. Cast opened the UK and Ireland dates, and Richard Ashcroft served as the main support act on those dates.

Next, the pairing closed a circle from the 1990s bills. Cast had played Knebworth in 1996, and Ashcroft had shared bills with Oasis since the early years.

Then the international legs widened the bill beyond Britpop. Cage the Elephant supported the North America dates, and Ball Park Music supported the Australia dates.

Meanwhile, Asian Kung-Fu Generation and Otoboke Beaver also supported international dates on the tour. The global bill mixed heritage acts with newer bands, and each leg matched its local audience.

In addition, the UK pairing gave fans a full evening of 1990s guitar music. Cast warmed the crowd first, Ashcroft followed with his own hits, and Oasis then closed the night.

Why the Live 27 question matters

For fans, the Live 27 support question matters because the slot sets the tone of the night. A strong opener builds the crowd, and a weak opener leaves the headline act to start cold.

Our Richard Ashcroft support page covers the one confirmed Live 27 support name. Our Ashcroft profile covers his long history with the band.

Next, Liam Gallagher has teased quite a few more support acts for Live 27. That tease is not a confirmation, and fans should wait for official announcements before treating names as booked.

Then Ocean Colour Scene have said they would love to return for Live 27. That wish is also not a confirmation, and it shows how much the old bills still matter to the bands involved.

Still, only Richard Ashcroft is confirmed as a support act for Live 27 so far. Only Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher are confirmed by name for Live 27 itself.

Above all, the history warns against reading rumours as bookings. All 42 Live 27 shows sold out in the September 2026 ballot, and no general sale took place for the tour.

In short, Oasis learned the value of a bill from both sides of it. The Live 27 bill will matter, and the confirmed names so far give fans one firm anchor.
